Graem Swann is a successful spin bowler. He talked
AOC in an interview about his gripping. As he is the leading England’s best
spin bowler, hope it will be helpful for the wrist spinners or learners. Let's know what he described in his interview:-
This is my standard grip. I spin it off two knuckles: the first knuckle on my forefinger and the second knuckle on my second finger. Some spinners go off the first knuckle on the second finger but you tend to find the guys who spin it more go off the second knuckle because from there you can flick the ball and at the point of release it rolls off the top of your finger.
2. THE ARM BALL
You can hold the ball like this and the batsman will think it’s an arm ball and you can either bowl it with the seam up or you can spin it. If it’s spinning it may hit the seam, it may not. For the under-spinner, you hold it almost exactly the same as for an off break but rather than flicking over the top you flick underneath so the ball basically goes down the wicket like a flying saucer and skids on. That’s what I use as my arm ball.
3. THE TOP-SPINNER
Move the ball down your fingers from the standard grip, so rather than being against the second knuckle of the second finger the seam is against the first knuckle. Then you bowl over the top of the fingers so that the ball spins directly towards the batsman.
